Burro de Ouro / Donkey of Gold
Synopsis
Graciosa, a small Azorean island, was known as the island of donkeys. This species was on the verge of extinction until Franco, an Italian, arrived on the island, bought his first donkey and started a breeding farm to maintain the species. Filmed at the donkey's slow pace, for two and a half years Franco Ceraolo and I travel the island looking for donkeys loose in the savannahs, thus reaching those who work with them. Between donkeys that are born and those that die, between people who stop working with them and others who start, we follow, in a personal and affective way, a traditional and familiar agrarian cycle and the history of an island way of life overtaken at full speed by modern mechanization.
This project will divide in a mid-length film and a documentary series.
