Towers & Comets
Synopsis
A feast of symbols. With the city of Guimarães as its theme, "Torres & Cometas" is a short film by Gonçalo Tocha, made once again with Dídio Pestana on sound. The city, cradle of the nation, was the tower from which Afonso Henriques declared Portugal's independence in the distant date of 1128.
In the context of its celebration as European capital of culture, this is one of several films focusing on the city. As its astronomical title announces, Tocha reaches the city and looks for the origin of a new kingdom in traces: figures of saints, monuments, landmarks and music that is heard in the conquered space. It also looks for new beginnings to last for posterity, in a collection of historical ingredients that enhances the present.
